R. Francis (OP) shared an elementary lesson on economics and a DBQ on Changes in the Economy focusing on Orchard Park history.


G. Guillchard (E2CCB) shared a handout on types of business organizations with a writing component.


A. McAvoy (Pine Valley) shared her school website which houses information for her Economics class, particularly her sole proprietorship project and "These Hard Times' newsletter.


J. Walzer  (Ripley) shared her activity "Global Auction" which helps Global 10 students understand the types of economies that nations have (versus the type of government) and understanding the global economy.


J. Heslink (Sherman) shared her lesson around the use of logos and marketing. 


T.Gray shared two articles from Social Education (a NCSS publication):


J. Barnes shared information on the Karpeles library thought NYLearns which has original documents available to students and teachers online.  The translation feature of the documents is helpful to having student read/interpret the documents.


C.Kelly (OP) shared websites that she uses with her students as well as books including All the Money in the World by Bill Britton


J.Harford (Silver Creek) shared how she is teaching her students about money and making change (1st grade) using lessons from Everyday Math.  R. Francis then shared that we will have new pennies coming out and the teacher resources link from the US Mint.


K. Beckstrom (Jamestown) shared a new approach the district is taking to stay away from teaching to the test or table of contents and instead develop essential questions for the students that go beyond the content and are value loaded.  Sample economics questions are: "Is it right for a business to increase profits by using resources such as blood diamonds?"  Articles, documents, etc. are provided to the students in order to help them form their opinions.   She shared the questions the district has developed as well as information from NYSED on teaching from an issues based approach.


P. Feraldi (SGI) shared a DBQ that he uses on the Erie Canal with grade 4 students.


T.Gray also shared the website Kiva which allows people to make micro-loans to people in developing nations.
